Abstract
1,246,261. Universal joints. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 8 Nov., 1968 [10 Nov., 1967], No. 51311/67. Heading F2U. In a universal joint wherein resilient elements are interposed between radial projections 2, 4 on annular driving and driven elements 1, 3, the resilient elements comprise antifriction material 10 between layers of rubber or plastics material 9. The antifriction material may be polytetrafluorethylene or polypropylene and may be a single or double layer. The driving and driven elements may be steel laminates connected by adhesive, welding, riveting or screwing. The resilient elements may be formed by inserting a strip of antifriction material into a resilient tube, the inner and outer ends 11, 12 of which are cut after fitting between the projections 2, 4. The resilient material may be secured by adhesive to the projections.
