Abstract
1,246,359. Ball mills. DRAISWERKE G.m.b.H. 27 Aug., 1969 [25 March, 1969], No. 42721/69. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F2] A mill comprises a closed grinding vessel 1, a rotatable shaft 3 projecting into the vessel 1 and means for sealing the vessel against the shaft, the sealing means being engaged with the vessel by way of elastic intermediate means. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a ring 6 and disc 7 separate ground material from the grinding media. A non-rotary cover 12, which houses shaft seal 15, 16 and a bearing 13, cooperates with a ring 11 secured to the vessel.- Radial movement between the ring 11 and cover 12 is taken up by an elastic insert 14. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, a sieve 22 separates ground material from the media. The shaft is sealed by an annular element 25 secured to the sieve frame 24 and a stuffing box 26 including packing rings 27 and a gland 28. A rotary bush 29 is mounted on the shaft. Between the stuffing box 26 and the element 25 is an elastic, e.g. metal membrane 30. The stuffing box 26 is connected by stays 32 to a supporting bearing 31. In each case the vessel has a heating/cooling jacket 2, a vent cock 21, 35 and a throttle 20, 34 in the feed outlet 19, 33 respectively.
