Abstract

1,248,523. Knitting-machines. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. 20 May, 1970 [28 May, 1969], No. 26934/69. Heading D1C. [Also in Division F2] A straight-bar machine has two sets of oppositely movable transfer points 5 on the narrowing head and an independently mounted control comprising selectors 21 movable by spades between operative and inoperative positions. The points are normally held by springs 16 so that they will box with the needles. Unless pivoted by the spades to an inoperative position hooks 38 of the selectors engage hooks 19 of the points as ‘the head is lowered, thereby relatively raising the points in the bed to an ineffective level. Two sets of spades 44, 45 and 59, 60 act on the selector head 33; and two 64, 65 and 69, 70 on the tail. Each set is adjustable across the machine and is tiltable or slidable to pivot the selector. The second and fourth sets have continuous blades effective for a V-neck, and selvedges or doubling respectively. The first and third sets are multi- and single-prong blades respectively, for lacings or alternatively marking. Once the points are boxed the control pivots clear. Before each operation points and selectors are returned to normal positions.
