Abstract

1,248,657. Training vehicle drivers. KANSAI SEIKI SEISAKUSHO CORP. 5 June, 1969 [24 June, 1968], No. 28574/69. Heading B7H. [Also in Division A6] In a vehicle driving game of the type wherein a player controls the apparent movement of a model vehicle with a steering wheel and an accelerator pedal, the image of a model car is projected on to a screen, the light first passing through a set of transparent coaxial rotary discs on which the figures of a road and sets of other vehicles are drawn, one disc-with the road drawn on it-is fixed to a shaft whose rotation is controlled by the player, the other discs being freely rotatable thereon and having their rotation controlled by automatically adjusting control means which vary the rotational speed of the latter discs and hence the apparent motion of the other vehicles appearing on the screen, means are provided for supporting the lamp and model vehicle on different sides of the multi-rotary disc mechanism and for moving the model relative to the discs-hence causing the apparent movement of the car across the road shown on the screen. The apparatus is housed in a frame 10 as shown, a steering wheel 16 being provided to move the model car 13 via a pinion mechanism (59). An accelerator pedal 17 controls the speed of the shaft (27) on which the disc mechanism 11 bears. Light from a source 12 shines through the rotating discs and past the car 13 throwing a moving image as in Fig. 8 on to the screen 14, said image being reflected to the player by a mirror 15. The car 13 may be provided with a photosensitive element adapted to emit a signal when the light received from the source is interrupted by a figure on one of the rotary discs, said signal may be used to produce a sound similar to that produced upon the collision of vehicles, and may also stop the rotation of the fixed disc for a short period. The apparatus may further be provided with a counting devcie to show the number of rotations of the fixed rotary disc and to indicate this number as the apparent distance that the car has run.
