Abstract
1,248,992. Laminate. ROLAMITE TECHNOLOGY Inc. 31 March, 1969 [19 April, 1968], No. 16721/69. Heading B6N. [Also in Division H1] A coil winding sheet comprises a thin flexible elongate web of insulating material having a conductive track in the form of a spiral surrounding a longitudinal slot in the web. The web may be produced by adhesively securing a sheet of Cu, Al, or Cu alloy to a ” Mylar ” (Registered Trade Mark) web by means of a thermosetting resin which is partially cured. The conductive sheet is then etched to form the desired pattern of conductive tracks which are then subjected to pressure to displace some of the adhesive into the spaces between the tracks. The assembly is then heated to fully cure the resin. Two strips on which the spiral tracks terminate are partly cut out of the web to form leads and the web is wound by rolling one end to form a loop which is passed over the opposite end resulting in a structure in which the upper and lower bands of the web are wound in opposite directions so that the upper coil has its conductors on the outside of each turn while the lower coil has its conductors on the inside of each turn. An alternative winding method using two mandrels which are rotated and passed through the slot is described and results in the same coil structure. The coils are in fluxaiding relationship and a straight magnetic core may be inserted through a pair of coils or a U- shaped core may be utilized. The web may be rolled up from one end to form a pair of coils in flux-opposing relationship one of which may be turned end-for-end and a magnetic core inserted.
