Abstract

1,259,392. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO ANALITICHESKOGO PRIBOROSTROENIA AN SSSR. Jan.15, 1969 [Jan.15, 1968], No.2448/69. Heading G1N. In a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer using internal and external N.M.R. references for field stabilization, the analysis sample probe 2 is disposed within the field generated by a pair of coils 6 forming part of the internal stabilization system and the external reference sample probe 7 is arranged outside the field of coils 6. Operation of the external system is independent of the internal system. As shown, both probes are connected to an r.f. generator 15 and to an a.f. modulation generator 16. The output from the external reference probe 7 is connected via an r.f. amplifier 8, a.f. amplifier 9 and D.C. amplifier 10 to coils 11. The output from the analysis probe 2 is connected via an r.f. amplifier 3, a.f. amplifier 4 and D.C. amplifer 5 to a switch 17, which in position C connects the coils 6 to the output of amplifier 5. The r.f. amplifier 3 is also connected via an a.f. amplifier 12 to an oscilloscope 13 and recorder 14. Selection of the required part of a spectrum, resolution adjustment and setting of optimum levels of r.f. and a.f. voltages are carried out using the oscilloscope 13 with switch 17 in position A. For recording using only the external stabilization system, switch 17 is put in position B in which the current through coils 6 and hence the field intensity at the sample is varied in synchronism with the travel of the chart paper. When using the internal stabilization system with switch 17 in position C, the N.M.R. spectrum is scanned by sweeping the a.f. modulation frequency. The spectrometer is useful for studying complex spectron (e.g. the N.M.R. spectrum of fluorine) and temperature dependencies.
