Abstract
1,259,613. Tyre pressure indicator. A. MIRSKY. 22 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968; 10 April, 1969], Nos. 50089/68 and 18563/69. Heading B7C. A device for initiating a radio signal when the pressure in a tyre or other pneumatic or hydraulic pressure falls below a minimum value or rises above a maximum value comprises a first movable member 3 whose position is dependent on the pressure and a second movable member 4 for initiating the signal, e.g. from a radio transmitter 13, the members 3 and 4 being normally linked, but disengageable so that the member 4 can be set in an initial position while the member 3 is subjected to a setting pressure, thereby enabling the device to operate over ranges of pressures each dependent upon the value of the setting pressure. A pressure chamber 1 contains resilient bellows, of natural extension A, connected to a metal bar 3 which is linked to a pinion 4, rotatable on a pin 5, by intermeshing teeth or respective milled and rubber surfaces. The bar 3 projects through a hole in the device housing 7, the hole being normally closed by a rubber sleeve or cap 16 which is, however, deformable by a manual or mechanical force in direction 17 to displace the bar 3, thereby disconnecting it from the pinion 4. A contact stud 10 mounted on a mica/copper laminate plate 11 is contacted by a leaf spring 8 at the lower pressure limit for actuating the transmitter, the spring 8 resting against a limit stop 9 when the pinion 4 is in its initial position, under the action of a leaf spring 6. Alternatively, the stop 9 may be used as a high pressure contact by wiring it to stud 10 with the spring 8 in a position intermediate the contacts 9 and 10 when the pinion 4 is in its initial position. The contacts 9 and 10 may be resilient, instead of contact 8. The connection of an air supply line or gauge may be arranged to cause the displacement of the bar 3. The transmitter 13 is powered by a battery 14 or a built-in generator, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprising a coil (23) mounted on springs (24) between magnetic poles (21), (22) and connected to an accumulator and rectifier, the coil being oscillated by wheel motions. Alternatively, the magnetic poles are resiliently mounted.
