Abstract

1286431 Toy time-indicating device MATTEL Inc 14 Jan 1971 [3 Aug 1970 1797/71 Heading G5R In a toy time-indicating device, rotatable member 18 for setting the hands of a simulated wrist watch 16 is coupled to positioning means for a multitrack record 30 in spring driven gramophone 28 which plays a message related to the time setting after it is wound by pull-cord 44. Rotation of member 18 moves the hands of the watch and also via flexible coupling member 26 rotates worm gear 86 coupled to index wheel 60. A second stop 56 on a stop plate 58 extends through a slot 62 in the index wheel and is moved by the index wheel to a position which is a function of the setting of the watch hands. The pull-cord 44 winds on to an arbour 46 which is directly connected to one end of the gramophone motor spring 40 and clutch coupled to turntable 32 carrying the record 30 and a first stop 54. On drawing the pull-cord to-wind the spring motor the pick-up arm is lifted and moved to a position adjacent the record edge, a bevel plate 66 is moved perependicular to the turntable axis and moves stop plate 58 against the action of spring 64 to a position in which second stop 56 projects into the path of first stop 54, and rotates turntable 30 in direction 52, opposite to the playing direction until stop 54 engages stop 56 in which position the clutch slips and the start of the record track associated with the selected time setting is below the pickup arm needle. On releasing the cord the pick-up arm drops to the playing position, the turntable is driven in the playing direction and spring 64 moves stop 56 out of the path of stop 54 on the turntable.
