Abstract
1289391 Easy-open containers VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AG 26 Nov 1970 [7 April 1970] 56265/70 Heading B8D A container end 2, seamed to container body 1 and having a removable panel 5 defined by weakening line 4, is provided with a one piece pull tab 7 comprising a rigid portion 8 having a grip ring portion 10 at one end and a piercing edge 9 at the other, a rigid flanged attachment portion 11 riveted at 6 to the removable panel, and front and rear strips 12 and 13 and connected by hinge lines 14-17 to the portions 8 and 11. On lifting of the grip ring portion, the strips bend along the hinge lines permitting the piercing edge to move forwards and downwards on to the weakening line. Further lifting of the ring portion, causes rupture of the weakening line and inwards deflection of the rupture panel portion. The complete panel can then be pulled away by dragging upwards and rearwardly. The rigid portion 8 is stiffened by rolled edges and the attachment portion is stiffened by the side flanges 19 and 20. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the interconnecting strip 13 is bent along its length at 18 to form a further hinge line.
