Abstract
1289412 Dishwashing machines BRITISH DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970] 17465/70 Heading A4F [Also in Division D1] A clothes- or dish-washing machine has a dis- penser for powdered detergent comprising a container with a pre-wash compartment 1 having a lower floor portion 4 with an outlet 7 to the washing vessel, a main compartment 2 having an upper floor portion for receiving a predetermined charge of detergent, part of which is retained by a wall 16 with an opening 17, the remainder spilling to be supported by the floor portion 4, and first and second fluid inlets 24 and 21 for respectively flushing the detergent from the compartments 1 and 2. The dispenser preferably has a further compartment 3 for introducing a liquid agent to the washing vessel. The fluid inlets 24 and 21 are in the form of injectors and the floor portions are sloped to ensure complete flushing away of the detergent. An overflow 7a, Fig.2, for the pre-wash compartment and overflows 20 and 18a, Figs.2 and 4, for the main compartment are provided in case of blockage of the passages. The compartment 3 comprises a main portion 3b, into which the liquid additive is added, separated by a wall 9 with a restricted passage 10 from an auxiliary portion 3a having a water inlet 14 which a cap 15 and a siphon tube 8 leading to the outlet 7. The main portion 3b has an overflow (12) Fig.6 (not shown) below the level of the siphon. In use water from the inlet 14 passes through the passage 10 to mix with the additive until the level in the compartment 3a is sufficient to start the siphon when the liquid is drawn back and passes through the siphon. As shown the compartment 2 is a plastics moulding resting at 25 and 11 on a second moulding and the cover of the dispenser, may be fixed or removable. In further embodiments the dispenser is a slidable drawer with flexible water supply pipes. In the embodiment in Fig.15 the compartment 3b has a sloping floor section 61 from which a viscous additive is washed by a part of the liquid issuing from the inlet 14 and the lid 54 is opened by the lower limb of a centrally-pivoted C-shaped member 57 when the upper limb engages an abutment 60 as the drawer is withdrawn from the machine.
