Abstract

1289948 Gas-discharge display panels PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24401/71 Heading H1D A display panel comprises two plates 1, 2, an array of cavities 8 situated between or in said plates, a cross-bar addressing system having at least one set of conductors 5 which are embedded in one plate 2 and whose exposed surfaces lie below the surface of the associated plate, the resulting spaces above the conductors 5 forming channels 6 communicating with a common duct 10 for exhausting and filling the cavities. The conductors 5 may be etched to form the channels 6 which are preferably less than the electron mean free path in depth. The other set of conductors may be flush with the surface of their associated plate or may be metallic layers (13) thereon, Fig. 2 (not shown). in Fig. 3 (not shown), both sets of conductors have channels which enable the intermediate plate 3 to be omitted, the cavities being formed by the intersecting channels.
