Abstract
1292109 Separable hinge INITIAL PLASTICS Ltd 14 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 23713/ 70 Headings E2F and E1J [Also in Division B8] Two members 1, 2 of either a moulded plastics or a die cast metal are hinged together by at least three resilient, co-axial but axially displaced channel elements (e.g. 4, 5, 6, Fig. I) which rotatably receive at least one hinge pin, (e.g. 8) attached to its respective member by a web 10. At least two of the channels, e.g. 4, 5, are attached to the same member on opposite sides of the hinge axis and the remaining channels may be attached to the same member 1, Fig. 1, or to the other member 2, Fig. 5, in which case they receive a second pin attached to the member 1. The spacings 11, 12 between the members edge 9 and the pin 8 exceeds the thickness of the channels. The webs 10 may either, as shown, be in conjunction with channels on the same side of the hinge axis or, Fig. 4 (not shown) be in conjunction with gaps between the channels. The hinge is assembled or dis-assembled by axially displacing the members 1, 2 and bevels 14, 18 on the webs and channel’s leading edges co-operate to force the channels apart. The members may have channels and pins along two opposed edges, Fig. (not shown) to enable a number of members to be hinged together to form a conveyor, roller grille or shutter. Resisting Hinging. The hinge pins may be non-circular, e.g. oval, square or hexagonal, and the resilient channel elements are of complementary shape.
