Abstract
1294920 Volume-stabilization of blowmoulded containers G HANSEN 15 July 1970 [18 July 1969] 34258/70 Heading B5A The volume of a blow-moulded, filled container is temporarily reduced while in the mould by external pressure exerted thereon prior to closure of the container and after the material has set so as to reduce any tendency to bulging of the container by reduction of volume on subsequent cooling. The moulding assembly 2, Fig. 1, is movable on base 1 from below an extruder to below a blowing and filling device and back. Mould halves 12, 12a close around tubular extrudate held by suction heads 14, 14a while below the extruder and the container body portion is formed by vacuum drawn through mould halves 12, 12a. The assembly then passes below the blowing and filling device and the container may be fully inflated thereby and filling material introduced. One or both of mould wall sections 26, 26a are then displaced to reduce the container volume. Top mould halves 16, 16a then close to close and vacuumform the top of the container. The wall section 26 may be used as an ejector.
