Abstract
1300012 Web separating and binding machines MIDLAND-ROSS CORP 7 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 844/71 Heading B8R A foil separating and rewinding machine comprises two pairs of rewind arms 52, Fig. 1, mounted pivotally on shafts 54 and supporting between them web roll shafts 50 on which are wound the separated foils 38, 40 which are passed from a common separating cylinder 36 to respective ironing cylinders 42, 46, whereby the web rolls 44, 48 are arranged to be driven in either rotary direction for winding the foils with the desired side facing outwardly. The nip pressures between the ironing rollers 46 and the web rolls 48 are kept constant by pressing the web rolls 48 towards the ironing rollers 46 by means of arms 58 which are integral with the arms 52 and connected to fluid cylinders 60. The pressure in the cylinders is controlled by a servomotor 84 co-operating with the end of a lever 82, Fig. 3, fast with a shaft 70 and with a lug 76 which contacts a pin 78 on a lever arm supporting the ironing roller 46 freely rotatably on the shaft 70. The web 14 which is drawn off a roll 16, Fig. 1, and fed over guide rollers 18, 20, 30, 32, 34 to the separating cylinder 36 is tensioned by a dancing roller 22 associated with damping means 24 which coact with control means 26 varying the speed of a motor 28 which drives the web roll 16. The guide rollers 18, 20, 32 are driven by a separate drive assembly. The web rolls 44, 48 of rewound foils 38, 40 are also driven by a separate drive comprising a motor (101, Fig. 2) whose shaft 100, Fig. 1, drives a toothed belt assembly 94, 96, 98 in turn associated with the web supporting shaft 50 through a pulley 94 and resilient clutch 90, Fig. 7. The clutch comprises a first coupling 110 fast with the shaft 92 carrying the pulley 94 and provided with a diametral slot 118 having projections 120 which locate rollers 108 on the second coupling 102 fast with the web supporting shaft 50. The shaft 50 is provided at each end with bearings 86 located in cradles of the rewind arms 52 and for removal of a web roll 48, the holders (122, Fig. 2) which secure the bearings in the cradles are released and the shaft 50 lifted off whilst the rollers 108 are sliding along the vertically aligned slot 118 in the first coupling 110. The web roll 48 is supported on the shaft 50, which is provided with three axial slots 126, Fig. 10, by means of a sleeve 124 the ends of which are provided with axial notches 134 for cooperation with an aligning detent 132 on a locking ring 128 provided with wedge shaped lugs 130 engaging the slots 126 and the inner wall of the sleeve 124. The locking ring 128 may be secured by a grub screw 135 or a locking nut 136.
