Abstract
1300669 Purifying cracked gases LINDE AG and ERDOLCHEMIE GmbH 11 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 22609/70 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions B1 and C1] In a process for removing CO 2 and/or H 2 S from cracked gases by absorption in a scrubbing column 2 using an aqueous alkaline solution which is regenerated in a column 7 and recycled to the absorber 2, resin-forming constituents of the gas which have been absorbed by the solution, e.g. dienes, higher acetylenes, and unsaturated polycyclic and heterocyclic compounds, are removed from the solution before or during the regeneration step. Several embodiments are described. In one, Fig. 1, steam generated in a reboiler 8 drives off CO 2 , H 2 S (which leave the plant at 13) and resin-formers from the solution in the column 7. Water and condensed resin-formers are wholly or partially discharged at 14, make-up water entering at 15. Hydrocarbons condensing in the column 1 are preferably removed from the absorbent before regeneration by dividing the sump of the column 1, see Fig. 2 (not shown), and allowing sparation by gravity of the aqueous and hydrocarbon phases in one chamber, with overflow into, and removal from, the other. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the absorbent is stripped, with CH 4 , N 2 , H 2 or process gas in a column (40) which is interposed between the column 2 and a heat exchanger 6. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the absorbent is extracted, at (20), with a liquid solvent which is recovered and recycled. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the absorbent includes an organic solvent for the resin-formers, sub-stream of the absorbent leaving the column 7 being separated, at (31), into an aqueous phase which is recycled to the circuit 9, 6, 10, and an organic phase from which the solvent is recovered and sent in the line 3. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the organic solvent is delivered to the column 7, separated from the aqueous phase in the sump of the column 7 by gravity, purified, at (24) and recycled to the column 7.
