Abstract
1300870 Protective arrangements SYBRON CORP 20 May 1970 [2 June 1969] 24472/70 Headings H2H and H2K A device for protecting equipment situated in a hazardous area comprises a box 5 housing current and voltage limiting circuitry and provided with terminals 1, 3, the circuitry being embedded in encapsulating material 6. The load in the hazardous area is connected between terminals 3, 4 and the circuitry comprises a fuse F, resistors R1, R2, R3 and Zener diodes Z1, Z2, the diode Z2 becoming conductive at a voltage slightly less than that for the diode Z1. If the voltage applied between the terminals 1, 2 increases beyond its normal value the diode Z2 conducts and the increased current through the resistors R1, R2 should cause the fuse to blow. If, however, the fuse does not blow the increasing voltage causes the diode Z1 to conduct thereby further increasing the current through the fuse. A liquid epoxy resin is poured into the box and hardens to encapsulate the circuitry. A copper bus-bar G.B. connects the terminals 2, 4 and a plastics cover which engages projections 31, 35 fits over one end of the box.
