Abstract
1301379 Semi-conductor switching circuits; cathode-ray tube circuits COMPAGNIE GENERALE D’ELECTRICITE 20 Nov 1970 [21 Nov 1969 21 April 1970] 55415/70 Headings H3T and H4T A capacitive load such as the screen 4 of a dichromatic C.R.T. 2 is switched between two voltage levels by a switching circuit 10 fed by a voltage supply 8, and to speed up the change in levels, further charge and discharge paths are provided which include respective diodes 62, 63 and means such as transformers 60, 61 which respond to a further output of the switching circuit 10. The supply voltage 8 of 21KV is applied across R12, a valve 14 and transistor 16 whose base current controls the anode potential of V14 which is applied to C.R.T. screen 4. This anode potential is compared in a saturating differential amplifier 20 with the voltage from an electronic switch 22 the amplifier output thus changing T16 base current in response to switch 22. The output of the amplifier also feeds threshold circuits 52, 53 which respond to positive and negative going amplifier outputs respectively to supply a positive pulse at 32 or 33 which is amplified 40, 41 and fed to the transformer 60 or 61. If the screen is to be charged from 6KV to 14 KV to change the spot colour from red to green, V14 anode goes from 6 to 14 KV, and simultaneously the amplifier 40 reponds to threshold circuit 52 to produce in the secondary of transformer 60 a + 8KV pulse which adds to the + 6KV of the e.m.f. source 70 to boost via diode 62 the charging action. A negative output from the amplifier 20 similarly produces in transformer 61 secondary pulse of -8KV which cancels the 8KV of source 72 and causes the screen to discharge to the 6KV of source 70. The sources 70, 72 consist of Zener diodes and a parallel capacitor (Figs. 2, 3, not shown). To prevent possible oscillation due to the transformer inductances from operating the discharge amplifier 41 soon after operation of the charge amplifier 40, each amplifier is driven by an AND gate 54, 55 responsive to the respective threshold circuit outputs 52; 53 and also to the inverted and prolonged outputs of the opposite threshold circuits 53, 52; these inverted signals effectively inhibit each gate for a given time after receipt of a signal at the other gate.
