Abstract
1304762 Seaming SOFTAL ELEKTRONIK GmbH 17 April 1970 [10 April 1969] 16367/70 Heading B5K [Also in Divisions C7 D1 H1 and H5] Corona discharge treatment of the surface of materials such as synthetic resin, metal, paper and textile fabrics, using a high-frequency generator 11 and a high-frequency power transformer, is improved by having a constant discharge by the primary and secondary windings 14, 16 of the transformer being linked closely to one another and being provided on a closed ferrite core 17. A strip F is passed between metal electrodes 30, 36, or 50, 52, one or both of which are rollers, and a coating 32 of dielectric material on one of the electrodes increases the total capacitance of the arrangement. One electrode 30, 52 is earthed. The “load” section of the apparatus includes ohmic resistance 20, the capacitance 22 of the strip F and the capacitance 24 of the roller coating 32. A compensating coil 54 on a ferrite core is provided between the transformer and the electrode 50, the inductance of the coil being varied either mechanically or electrically. As the total capacitance C varies, the inductance L of the resonant circuit including the windings 14, 16 and electrodes is altered to keep the product LC constant, the generator 10 having a fixed operational frequency. The inductances of both the windings 14, 16 are variable in a predetermined relationship. A large amount of ozone is liberated during the discharge treatment and is advantageous for preparation of the surface of the strip F for taking colour or adhesive. Where the strip is of metal, the treatment cleans the metal surface.
