Abstract

1304770 Diglycidyl compounds CIBAGEIGY AG 2 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57273/70 Addition to 1290728 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel diglycidyl compounds of the formula wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, are prepared by reacting a monoalcohol of the formula in a single stage or several stages with an epihalogenohydrin. In the one-stage process the reaction is carried out in the presence of an alkali and in the two-stage process the monoalcohol is first condensed with the epihalogenohydrin in the presence of an acidic or basic catalyst and the resulting halogenohydrin is dehydrohalogenated by means of an alkali to give the diglycidyl ether. Examples describe the preparation of 1-glycidyl-3-(21-glycidyloxyethyl) – 5,5 – dimethylhydantoin and 1 – glycidyl – 3 – (21 – glycidyloxy – n – propyl). 5,5-dimethylhydantoin
