Abstract
1305242 Hand carts B WEIL 7 May 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 22184/70 Addition to 1206747 Heading B7B In a collapsible hand cart comprising in accordance with the main patent a main frame 11 having pivotally connected thereto rigid front legs 13 normally held in a vertical position by diagonal two-part braces 36 and two-part rear legs 14 held by a rigid brace 60 pivotally connected to the legs 14 and the frame 11 respectively, there is provided a safety lock 86 which must be released before a latch mechanism 65 can be operated to allow the legs 14 and braces 36 to buckle and the legs 13 and brace 60 to swing rearwardly to lie close beneath the frame 11 as the cart is pushed across the tailgate of a vehicle. The latch mechanism 65 comprises a lever 75 mounted on one of handles 28 and linked to a bell-crank lever 66 which is pivotally mounted on a rod 53 extending between the upper sections 51 of the legs 14 and formed with an L-shaped slot 81 receiving a pin 84 on the upper section 39 of one brace 36. The safety lock 86 comprises two legs 88 pivotally connected to the frame 11, and a U-shaped handle 92 pivotally connected to the legs 88. The legs 88 are formed with L-shaped slots each having a latching portion 91 engaged with the rod 53 by spring-loading acting on the leg. When the handle 92 has been raised to release the rod 53 from the slot portions 91, extensions 92A of the handle block the slot portions 91 so that subsequent operation of the latching mechanism 65 allows the cart to collapse. Auxiliary wheels 12 are provided on the frame 11 so that the collapsed cart is supported on the auxiliary wheels and the wheels 34 on the front legs 13.
