Abstract

1305301 Packaging machines GLOLOK CO Ltd 24 April 1970 19774/70 Heading B8C In a machine for packaging, e.g. three milk filled pouches 35 in a bag 46, the pouches 35 are collated in an upright position in a compartmented collating section 25 having a bottom trapdoor which is then opened so that the pouches 35 drop into a bag 46. Collating section 25.-In the embodiment shown the collating section 25 comprises a casing 26 which pivotally supports two actuating arms 38 pivotally carrying guide walls 34. A spring-biased arm or a counterweight arm 39 carrying a weight 40 is pivoted to each guide wall 34 and is pivotally connected to the casing 26 at its lower end. The weights 40 are arranged to locate the guide walls 36 adjacent a a feed shoot 33, the walls 34 being such as to pivot to a substantially horizontal position in which they overlap each other and the shoot 33. In operation pouches 35 are supplied to the collating section 25 by a conveyer 32 and the first pouch slides down the shoot 33 and over the guide walls 34 causing that wall 34 furthest from the shoot to pivot to a vertical position (see Fig. 7) and the arms 38, 39 supporting it to swing in an anti-clockwise manner. The second pouch 35 then causes the second guide wall 34 to pivot to a vertical position and the third pouch 35 then drops into the space between the second guide wall 34 and the casing 26 to actuate a switch 68. The actuating of the switch 68 causes the plunger 42 of an air cylinder 28 to be retracted to open the trapdoor 27. Supporting and feeding of bags 46.-A stack of bags 46 are transferred from a bail 51 to a pair of supporting studs 52 situated below the trapdoor 27. An air nozzle 67 is positioned to direct air towards the trapdoor 27, which air causes the leading bag 46 to bellow open. The air nozzle 67 is actuated when the second guide wall 34 is in its vertical position and is clear of a switch 66. The trapdoor 27 has a hook 45 at its free edge and when the trapdoor 27 is opened this hook 45 engages in the partly opened leading bag 46 to fully open the same. When the trapdoor 27 is fully open it contacts a switch 69 to deactivate the air nozzle 67. Dispensing filled bags.-A pivotally mounted ramp 57 having idler rollers 56 is connected to the trapdoor 27 by a rod or chain 62. When the trapdoor 27 is opened the ramp 57 is lowered to a horizontal position in order to receive a filled bag 46 which is torn from the studs 52 by the weight of the three pouches 35. When the trapdoor 27 is raised the ramp 57 is also raised to feed the filled bag to a roller conveyer 65. Other embodiments.-The guide walls 34 may be replaced by guide walls (70, Figs. 12, 13, not shown) which are pivoted at their bottoms to the casing and controlled by actuating rods (75). Alternatively fixed guide walls (78, Figs. 14, 15, not shown) may be used in which case a shoot (80) is pivoted to deliver successive pouches to different compartments. In a final embodiment (Figs. 16, 17, not shown) fixed guide walls (83) are pivotally connected to upper guide plates (87) which are pivoted by actuators (88) to guide successive pouches to different compartments.
