Abstract
1305418 Bolts USM CORP 13 May 1970 [16 May 1969] 23229/70 Heading F2H A corrosion resistant fastener comprises a metal screw or bolt having a threaded shank 20, a head 22 having a peripheral flange 50 extending in the same axial direction as the shank to form with an upper shoulder 54 an annular groove 56 below the head, and a one-piece plastics cover 10, e.g. of polyamide, polycarbonate, or polymethylene resin, moulded about the head 22 and having a portion 70 for engagement by a wrenching tool, an outwardly flared skirt 72 extending in the same axial direction as the shank 20, and an inner skirt 76 extending in engagement with the shoulder 54 and having an upper portion engaging the annular groove 56. The skirt 72 may have internal annular ribs (82) (Fig. 2, not shown). A lower shoulder 28 adjacent the upper shoulder 54 bears on the surface 90 into which the fastener is inserted. The head 22 has a knurled top surface 32 and spaced radial arms 44 to improve adhesion between the cover 10 and the head 22. The cover portion 70 is preferably hexagonal.
