Abstract
1307117 Sheet transport device; retaining articles on endless conveyer belts electrostatically XEROX CORP 28 May 1970 [2 June 1969] 25635/70 Headings B8A and B8R A sheet transport apparpatus includes a dielectric endless belt 12 driven between a sheet loading station 30, e.g. feed rollers 31, 32, and a guide 33, and a remote location 60, e.g. a sheet receiving tray 37 having a guide 36, the loading station having electrical charging means 40, e.g. a corona charging device, to charge the sheet and belt so as to electrostatically attract the sheet to the belt, control means being provided to activate the charging means 40 only when the sheet 11 is between the charging means and the belt, means 1.3 also being provided to earth the belt in the loading station by contacting the inner surface of the belt to enable current to flow from the charging means through the sheet and belt to earth. To provide control of the charging means, the speed of the belt and the drum 19 of a xerographic copier are made equal, as are the distance the belt travels between the charging means 40 and a toner image transfer device 25 and the distance the drum circumference travels between an exposure station B and the device 25. By activating the charging means, under the control of the electrical circuitry of Fig. 3 (not. shown), only during drum exposure, the sheet 11 reaches the transfer device 25 at the same timeas the exposed portion of the drum, and the charging means is activated only during the time the sheet 11 lies thereunder. The sheet 11 may be held by a spring finger 34 until the charging means is actuated. A belt neutralizing device 23 may be provided.
