Abstract

1318955 Spray carburetters COMPAGNIA ITALIANA WESTINGHOUSE FRENI E SEGNALI 30 Sept 1970 [24 April 1970] 46458/70 Heading F1B A fuel system for an I.C, engine includes a carburetter having a restrictor 34, Fig.2, movable axially along a support rod against the action of spring in response to the incoming air flow. The axial movement of the restrictor varies the values of suction signals delivered through passages 20, 20′, 20″ into annular space 16; the resultant of these signals being utilized in a control passage 60 of a fluidic regulator 56 to control the amount of fuel delivered through output branch 64 and line 66 to main jets (28, 28′), Fig.1 (not shown), in the wall of a transverse tube 22. A second control passage 58 receives through line 72, a reference pressure signal originating at conduit 40, During warm running of the engine a valve 74 delivers the reference signal to the passage 58 via a calibrated restriction 78, but for cold starting the valve 74 is positioned so that the restriction 78 is by-passed whereby the mixture is enriched. On rapid opening of throttle valve 14, the inertia of restrictor causes a time lag during which an enriched mixture is supplied for prompt response by the engine. Fuel is delivered from a tank 50 through a filter 54 to the regulator 56 by a pump 52. Surplus fuel is returned to the tank through line 68. A line 80 delivers fuel through calibrated restrictor 82 to progression line 86 and idling line 84 having an adjustable restrictor 84′. Passage 46 and line 88 drain off any fuel droplets from the region of tube 22 during idling. Air delivered through lines 90, 92 is used to emulsify the main fuel and the idling and progression fuel. The number and arrangement of the passages 20, 20′, 20″ and the contour of the restrictor 34 may be varied. For example the restrictor 34 may have an elliptical or polygonal cross-section and be arranged to rotate upon axial movement along its support rod, e.g. by providing a helical guide along the rod.
