Abstract

1319092 Intruder alarms; fire alarms MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 16 Nov 1970 [17 Nov 1969] 54488/70 Heading G4N An ultrasonic motion detector receiver responsive to acoustic energy from a carrier wave radiated into a space to be protected comprises an amplifier 36, Q2, a demodulator 40, a limiter Q4, Q5, a bandpass filter 45 and a circuit 60 capable of operating an alarm 61 in response to modulation on said received carrier within a predetermined frequency band and persisting for a predetermined period. The carrier frequency is preferably 40 kHz; active filter 26 having a pass band between 50 and 200 Hz so as to pass modulation due to movement of an intruder or turbulence due to a fire but to reject environmental noises. The integrator 58 has a discharge time constant due to resistor 70 much greater than the charging time constant due to resistor 66 so that a Schmitt circuit 60 will operate the alarm relay 61 in response to a predetermined number of positive half cycles of modulation signals passed by active filter 26. In Fig. 3 (not shown) integrator 56 uses the Miller principle and includes a feedback path to point E so as to adapt the limiting level to the threshhold noise level.
