Abstract

1324400 Manipulators PROGRAMMED & REMOTE SYSTEMS CORP 10 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 53341/70 Heading B8H A master-slave manipulator comprises a master and an extendable slave arm, 25, 13 respectively and an adjustable counterweight assembly mounted on the master arm side to counteract the change in moment on extending the slave arm 13. The master arm 25 is pivotally connected at 26 to a frame 27 on which a counterweight support (36), Fig. 2 (not shown) is pivotally mounted, the slave arm counterweight 45 being movably mounted on said support. To extend the slave arm 13 without extending the master arm 25, a motor 52 operates screws 54A connected to a pulley support unit 25 which cause the unit 55 to rise thereby extending the inner segment of the slave arm 13 by movement of cables 56, 57. This increase in the slave arm length is counteracted by the raising of the counterweight 45 by means of a screw (48) which is driven by the motor 52 through a flexible shaft 50. When the motor arm 25 is moved, Fig. 4 (not shown), a link 32 causes a lever 34 to move about its pivot and a power actuator 37, by means of its extendable rod 42, will cause the support (36) to swing about its pivot, thus moving the slave arm 13 a corresponding amount by means of links 15 extending through the tube 11.
