Abstract

1324471 Sound delay device; delay lines SONY CORP 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 16325/71 Headings H3U and H4R Sound signal delay device, e.g. for use in the reverberation system of Specification 1,319,001 comprises an air-tight box 102, having a plurality of partition walls A, B, C … X, Y, to form a meandering channel in the box. A drive transducer 141 is provided to feed sound into the meandering channel at one end, and microphones 142, 143 are provided to pick-up the sound after travel through part or all of the channel. The box may be formed of plastics or metal and can be formed, as shown in Fig. 2, with two horizontal walls X, Y and vertical partitions A, B, C, &c. alternate ones of which extend respectively to opposite ends of the box to form a meandering channel in each layer, with holes, such as 112, to provide communication from the end of the channel in one layer to the beginning of the channel in the next layer. Alternatively the partition walls can all extend to the open ends of the box and the communicating passages can be formed in end covers, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), or each layer can be formed individually as an open sided tray with a meandering channel, with the open side of one tray covered by the closed side of an adjacent tray in a stack, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown).
