1324871 Seaming non-metallic sheet material INDUSTRIE-WERKE KARLSRUHE AUGSBURG AG 23 Sept 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 45388/70 Heading B5K [Also in Divisions H1 and H5] In apparatus for producing transverse closures on filled collapsible tubular containers, which consist of at least one outer metal layer and an inner synthetic resin layer, by inductively heating the metal by passing a h.f. current from a generator 25, Fig. 5, through a conductor 14, Fig. 4, in a jaw 14a, the h.f. current produced by the generator 25 is supplied together with a cooling medium through a flexible conduit system 26, 27, 28, 29, Fig. 6, to a low loss distribution base 10, Fig. 1, which is common to at least two parallel operating tracks and from which the h.f. current and the cooling medium are fed with uniform distribution into a conductor 14 associated with each operating track. The base 10 comprises conductor plates 11, 12, Figs. 1 and 2, separated by a thin insulator 13, Fig. 1, e.g. of polytetrafluoroethylene. The plate 11 comprises sections 11a, 11b, 11c of which the sections 11a, 11b are approximate mirror images of each other. Clamping members 15 are disposed on the sections 11a, 11b, 11c and co-operate with clamping members 16, attached to the plate 12 in an insulated manner, to clamp the conductors 14. Water for cooling the base 10 and the conductors 14 is fed through a nipple 17, through pipes 11c1, 11c11, 11a1, 11b1, Fig. 1, and conductors 14 and returns through pipes 121, 1211, Fig. 2, to an outlet nipple 18. The feed and return of the h.f. current to and from the conductors 14 is also effected in the same manner. The plates 11, 12, Fig. 5, are connected to the generator 25 by a flexible coaxial cable 24 and have capacitors 23 connected in parallel thereto for improving the efficiency of the system. The coaxial cable, Fig. 6, comprises two corrugated metal tubes 27, 29 with an insulator 28 therebetween and an outer synthetic resin tube 26. Cooling water flows through the tube 29 and between the tubes 26, 27, as shown. The conductors 14, preferably of square crosssection, are mounted in jaws 14a, Fig. 4, which co-operate with counter-jaws (not shown). A rectilinear welding part 14c of each conductor which faces the collapsible tube is embedded in a ferrite core 19. The jaw 14a is connected to a member 21 formed in two parts separated by an insulator 20, these parts being fixed to the members 15, 16.
