Abstract

1324885 Gas/liquid contact apparatus SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN AB 30 Oct 1970 [13 Nov 1969] 51813/70 Heading B1R Gas/liquid contact apparatus of the type comprising a bed of fluidised lightweight contact elements wetted by a liquid and confined between upper and lower perforated plates 12 and 11 has a liquid-collecting gutter 19 at the bottom of the zone containing the bed, and a gas entrance passage 10 to the bed, the velocity of the gas introduced therethrough being such that liquid is prevented from passing through passage 10 and is atomized upwardly. The amount of liquid withdrawn through the gutter 19 may be controlled by a plate 23 blanking off a portion of the gutter. As shown, liquid is supplied upwardly by pipe 15 to the contact elements but liquid may be supplied from above (pipe 15b) or laterally (pipe 15a) into the bed. The lower inwardly sloping walls of the contact zone may be perforated and the lower edge of the gas inlet passage may be outwardly flared (see Figs. 2a, b, not shown). The upper perforated plate may be inclined (see Fig. 3, not shown) or have inclined baffles positioned below it (see Fig. 4, not shown). Two or more of the contact zones may be arranged in a common housing and be traversed by the gas in parallel or in series (see Figs. 5, 6, not shown).
