Abstract
1331339 Electrostatic charging apparatus KATSURAGAWA DENKI KK 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 20580/71 Heading: G2H [Also in Division H1] Members 7 disposed between the discharge electrodes 3 and counter electrodes 2 of a corona discharge device exert electrostatic forces to prevent transverse vibration of the discharge electrodes. The members 7 may be of insulating material eg, nylon or of a mechanically weaker insulating material provided with a reinforcing metal core. The device may be used to deposit or neutralize electrostatic charges and in the form shown is intended to deposit a charge on a photo-sensitive element 10 for use in electro-photography. The metal counter electrodes 2 are grounded and the discharge electrodes 3 are supplied with DC or AC from a source 5. The quantity of charge deposited is controlled by a grid electrode 4 connected to a source 6. The electrodes are supported between end plates 1. Alternative positioning of the members 7 is described Figs 3 to 5, (not shown) and there may be more than one discharge electrode between each pair of counter electrodes Fig. 6 (not shown). A light image may be projected onto the element 10 through the device. If this facility is not desired a three-sided counter electrode forming an inverted cup shape may be used Fig. 8 (not shown). In a further modification the counter electrode is a sheet of conductive glass and the discharge electrodes and vibration suppressing members are arranged in two staggered parallel rows.
