Abstract
1331355 Boring earth &c KUNGURSKY MASHINOSTROITELNY ZAVOD 3 Sept 1971 41192/71 Heading E1F [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] In a turbo-drill for boring wells power is transmitted to the bit by friction reductiongearing. As shown in Figure 1 members 4 having guide vanes 12 are fixed to a non- rotary casing 3 carried by a drill string and rotors 5 having vanes 14 are rotated about the bit carrying shaft 1 by drilling fluid passing through the vanes. Balls 11 engaged by the members and rotors are supported by carriers 10 fixed to the shaft so that the shaft is rotated at a lower speed than that of the rotors. In a modification (Figure 5, not shown) a rotatable casing is supported on the drill string and carries the bit whilst the carriers are fixed to a stationary central shaft about which the rotors and the members revolve in opposite directions. Rubber seals carried by the shaft are engaged by adjacent carrier hubs and the rotors (Figure 7, not shown) and rubber elements carried by the hubs of the rotors are engaged by the tips of the stators (Figure 11, not shown). As shown in Figure 8 alternate carriers are respectively connected to the adjacent lower rotor and the shaft, the carrier 51 being fixed to the rotor 52 by a coupling 53 and the carrier 58 being fixed to the shaft 1. In the construction shown in Figure 10 a series of rotary members 61 and rotors 63 form a multistage turbine, the members and rotors having respective extensions 60, 62 engaging balls 65 carried by a single non-rotary carrier 74 so that the casing 3 carrying the members and the bit is rotated by passage of drilling fluid through the vanes. In a further modification (Figure 9, not shown) the bit is carried by a rotary shaft and the rotors and stators of a multistage turbine have downward extensions engaging the balls of a single carrier fixed to the shaft.
