Abstract
1331564 Refining chromium steels EISENWERK GESELLSCHAFT MAXIMILIANSHUTTE 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 22047/71 Heading C7D Steel having a Cr content of 16-30 per cent with C and N in total not exceeding 0À015 per cent is produced from a crude iron melt containing 2-6 per cent C refined under reduced pressure by blowing with nitrogen-free O 2 beneath the melt surface. An inert gas such as argon, hydrogen or propane may be mixed with the O 2 ; powdered lime may also be blown in. In a preferred embodiment, the oxygen jets are each surrounded by a jacket of inert gas, e.g. propane.
