Abstract
1332738 Image transmission ROBERT BOSCH ELEKTRONIK GmbH 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 25830/71 Heading H4F In an image transmission system a line of information is scanned by a scanner 4 to produce voltages corresponding to brightness values corresponding to black and white regions of the image and fed to store 6. At the end of the line, coding circuit 8 cuts the connection between scanner 4 and store 6 and establishes a connection between store 6 and coding circuit 8. Pulse control circuit 29 supplies to store 6 read-out pulses while the coding circuit 8 counts the number of pulses corresponding to equal brightness voltage values to evaluate the time duration of each such brightness voltage value as a number of pulses. The store is erased simultaneously. The pulses counted by the coding circuit 8 are encoded for transmission. The speed at which the encoded information is transmitted, in the form of pulse blocks, is at a pulse recurrence frequency as near as possible to the maximum transmittable frequency of the transmission channel. After transmission of a line of information coding circuit 8 sends a control signal to control circuit 17 to drive the scanner to the next line. At the end of scanning the coding circuit 8 controls pulse control circuit 29 to stop further read-out pulses being fed to store 6 and interrupts connections between the store 6 and itself and store 6 and scanner 4 which returns to its original position. The receiver essentially involves only a reversal of the sequence of steps carried out at the transmitter, the recording of the recovered brightness values being carried out by an electrode burning the metal coating of a metallic paper for the black values and leaving it unburnt for the white values. A further embodiment, (Fig. 3, not shown), is described for reducing the lost time which occurs between transmission of the pulse signals for respective image lines. In this embodiment an extra store is provided in both transmitter and receiver, the two stores being fed and read sequentially so that continuous transmission of information is provided.
