Abstract
1338771 Labelling machine speed control H KRONSEDER 3 June 1971 [22 July 1970] 18889/71 Addition to 1255827 Heading B8F A labelling machine is supplied with articles by a variable speed conveyer 9 and spacing worm 10, and has monitoring switches 12, 13 at inlet and outlet regions which respond to the accumulation of articles to control the speed of the conveyer and operate a path blocking device 15 as described in Specification 1,255,827. Articles are assembled on a collector conveyer 7 which delivers them to conveyer 9 and a further accumulation monitoring switch 11 is mounted on this collector conveyer. Operation of both inlet switches on sensing accumulation causes the blocking device 15 to move from a closed to an open position and the speed of the conveyer to increase to a maximum. Once the accumulation has cleared switches 11, 12 the speed is reduced and the blocking device 15 closes, but in a modified control system speed reduction follows the clearing of switch 11 and the blocking device does not close until switch 12 has been cleared. The switch 13 closes the blocking device 15 and reduces the speed if an accumulation develops at the outlet but a further switch 13a may be provided which initially lowers the speed on sensing the accumulation; the device 15 only closing when the accumulation reaches switch 13. By linking the deflection of switch 11 to the speed control, an infinitely variable adjustment of the throughput rate between the low and high speeds can be effected. In a modification switch 11 is replaced by a series of three switches spaced upstream of switch 12 which must all operate in conjunction with switch 12 to open the blocking device and increase the speed and which provide successive reductions in speed as they become free of the accumulation. Manual controls are provided to operate the blocking device and speed control if required.
