Abstract

1338863 Radio navigation BENDIX CORP 17 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 12636/72 Heading H4D A phase-comparison radio navigation receiver for sequential signals on the same carrier frequency f1 comprises a first mixer 16 converting them to a frequency f11>f1 followed by a second mixer 24 converting the signals at f11 to square waveform at a frequency f111 1 and thereafter a phase comparator. The embodiment is a receiver for the “Omega” system. All internally-generated frequencies are derived from a single master oscillator (40, Fig. 3, not shown); frequency drift tends to be selfcompensating. As the phase measurement is on an intermittent and generally noisy signal, longterm phase averaging is by a phase tracker utilizing a phase-locked loop (see Division G4), an individual digital memory being provided for each station to be received, Figs. 6, 7 (neither shown). The phase tracker is time-shared by the memories. Lane determination.-A lane counter (244, Fig. 9, not shown) maintains a running count; when the position of the receiver is known the corresponding lane is entered, manually, into the lane counter.
