Abstract
1346460 Halohydrins UNIROYAL Inc 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 23046/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Halohydrins are obtained by mixing together (a), (b) and (c), wherein (a) is an olefinic substance having a double bond not activated by an adjacent aromatic radical selected from: (I) a (C 5 to C 20 ) cyclic mono-olefin hydrocarbon, (II) a (C 4 to C 20 ) diolefin hydrocarbon, and (III) a cyclic sulphone derived from (II); (b) is aqueous H 2 O 2 and (c) is aqueous HCl or HBr, the concentration of H 2 O 2 in the aqueous phase being from 0À1 to 20% by weight and the concentration of HCl or HBr in the aqueous phase being from 0À1 to 32% by weight, the mixture being subjected to a temperature from 0 to 100 C. whereby the chlorohydrin or bromohydrin of said olefinic substance (a) is formed. Examples are given where the olefin employed is cyclohexene, 1,5-cyclooctadiene, 2,5-dihydrothiophene-1,1-dioxide and butadiene. In one example 2-chlorocyclohexanol is treated with aqueous NaOH to form cyclohexene oxide.
