Abstract
1346975 Packaging objects in display units; discharging conveyer belts P FERRERO & C SpA 24 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 49058/72 Headings B8C and B8A Apparatus for loading objects, e.g. boxes 3 into a display unit 8 comprises two parallel conveyer belts 2 for conveying objects in rows or piles, conveyer means 6 for the display units, and at least one device for separating and guiding the objects to a filling station at which the display units are moved by a device 11 intermittently for the progressive filling of the units. As shown, five boxes are delivered by the conveyers 2 simultaneously to each side of a display unit 8 which is fed from the conveyer 6 on to a table 10 which can be raised or lowered by the device 11. The guiding and separating device comprises, for each conveyer belt 2, a linkage 30 and five fingers 33 which are actuated to engage the leading boxes on the conveyer belts 2 and displace them along slideways of guides 20 into recesses in the unit 8. The guides are rockable about axes 35 and the slideways are adaptable to the configuration of the recesses in the unit 8. The filled units are discharged on a conveyer 37. Each unit 8 is of zig-zag pattern and consists of a casing 51, base-plate 23 and sidewalls 53, 54. Each casing includes pockets 55, 56 and pockets 57, 58, 59 at a lower level to form a group adapted to be loaded at the same time by the slideways 22, 23 of each guide 20, 21. Abutments 61, 62 ensure accurate alignment of the slideways with the pockets 55-59. After the topmost pockets have been filled the slideways are moved in the direction of arrows 26, the unit is raised by the device 11 to bring the next group of pockets into register with the slideways which are then moved back to the position shown. Actuators for moving the units, linkages 30, and devices 11 and motors for driving the conveyers, may be controlled from a single panel, and the apparatus may be automated.
