Abstract
1349572 Recording liquid flow over surface; colour changing indicator coatings CIBAGEIGY AG 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21531/71 Headings B1X and B2E In visually recording liquid flow over a solid surface having a dry film coating, containing a first reagent freely diffusible in the coating, a liquid which contains a second reagent is caused to flow over the coating such that the liquid diffuses into the coating and the second reagent, which is freely diffusible within the coating, forms a stable non-difusible coloured reaction product with the first reagent. The reaction product is not readily soluble in the liquid. The film coating may be of a hydrophilic gel forming material, e.g. gelatin, casein methyl cellulose, or polyvinyl alcohol which can be treated by cross-linking or hardening agents. The solid surface may be cellulose triacetate, paper coated with a gelatin containing filling agents, polyester film, fibre fleece made from polyamide fibres, or foil. The reactions may involve the formation of azo dyestuffs from a diazo compound and coupling compound, or acid-alkali components with an indicator, or ferri or ferro-cyanides of alkali metal with the water soluble salts of iron or copper. The process may be used in the evaluation of conditions in photographic processing baths, mixing vessels, pipelines or model hulls.
