Abstract
1352608 Closures for pressurized vessels BVS 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 21199/71 Heading F2P A closure device for a cylindrical pressure vessel 1 (of which two embodiments are shown in Fig. 1) comprises a closure member 2, 4 that is concave to the interior of the vessel, a bearing member 5, 6 exteriorly in contact with the closure member from the axis of the vessel to adjacent the periphery of the closure member, and a retaining member 7, 8, which is secured to the vessel, in contact with the bearing member on a side thereof remote from the closure member. The arrangement is such that the resultant force on the bearing member in any one plane containing the vessel axis to one side of that axis acts through the surface of contact 13, 14 of the bearing and retaining members, this resultant preferably has the same line of action as the reaction force between the retaining and bearing members and further is at right angles to the contacting surface 13, 14. In the first embodiment the closure 2 is welded at 3 to the vessel and a continuous sealing skin is provided over the vessel wall and closure. In the other embodiment the closure 4 is removable and fluid tightness is ensured by a sealing ring 15, the closure resting on a shoulder 16. The bearing member 5, 6 may be in one piece or divided into separate sectoral units 6a, Fig. 2.
