Abstract
1354299 Railway sleepers PORTEC INC 3 May 1971 12759/71 Heading E1G A railway sleeper comprises a body of moulded synthetic resin composition having a pair of integral canted rail seats raised above (Fig. 8) or recessed below (Fig. 13) its top surface, each rail seat having a bonded-on flat or channel-section rail pad 3, 3a of synthetic resin. In modifications the sleeper body is of rectangular, trapezium or arched section. In further modifications the sleeper is moulded in two half-lengths which may have mating tongue and groove end formations, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), or may Fig. 12 (not shown) be identically provided with an end pocket (6) for a wood, metal or resin keystone and/or in situ resin filling. The sleeper body may be of epoxy, polyurethane, phenolic, or polyester resin, or a thermoplastic material, and may be filled with shavings, wood chips, wood flour, ground corn stalks or straw.
