Abstract
1355036 Reinforced film IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [14 April 1970] 17687/70 Heading B5B [Also in Division B8] Plastics film, useful in tear-open containers, has extending wholly or partly across it a flexible reinforcement having a highly localized line of weakness, the reinforcement having at least one free end which extends outwardly beyond the surface of the film. The reinforcement may be bonded to or embedded wholly or partly within the film. Suitable reinforcement comprises a woven textile tape or a pair of metallic or plastics tapes laid in parallel closely abutting relationship. The reinforcement may be selfadhesive and its free end may also be selfadhesive enabling resealing of a container embodying the film. To assist tear-propagation, the free end of the reinforcement may include a perforating device which may be detached or otherwise manipulated to perforate the film on the line of weakness before tearing. The film is, e.g. of polyethylene or polyethylene terephthalate.
