Abstract
1357808 Television INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 29 Oct 1971 [23 Nov 1970] 50426/71 Heading H4F An arrangement for selecting, from a store holding video signals relating to a first (larger) image broken down into a number of component images, data relating to an image of component image size, but selectable at will anywhere within the larger image, includes pickup means for the component images and switching means operative to switch between the signals from them at appropriate lines. As described 26 tracks on a disc store each contain video data for one of the component images formed by dissecting a picture into a 5 x 5 array. Each of two fields of a component image comprises 241¢ lines, and the relative timing is such that when the vertical retrace of a particular component image is starting to be read from one track, the first line of the next lower component image is available at its read-out head. Thus by suitable switching an image which spans the two component images may be selected for display. Similarly as the horizontal retrace of one component image begins, the video signals from the next component to the right begin to be available from its track. An arrangement for controlling the necessary switching using clock pulses recorded on the disc for generation of the necessary signals is illustrated in Fig. 8 (in a simplified form relating to 4 component images).
