Abstract
1358141 Regenerative vapour engines THERMO ELECTRON CORP 31 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 4356/72 Headings F1M and F1Q A regenerative vapour engine comprises a closed system, a condensable vapour serving as a working fluid in the closed system, a tidal regenerator 72 forming part of the closed system, means for establishing a temperature gradient across the regenerator, means for alternately establishing the level of the working fluid in its liquid phase at points of high temperature and at points of low temperature in the tidal regenerator, pressure in the closed system being relatively high when the level is at points of high temperature and relatively low when the level is at points of low temperature and means 98 responsive to changes of pressure communicating with the system for converting the changes to mechanical energy. The closed system includes a vaporizer 74 to which heat is supplied and a condenser 76 from which heat is extracted. The engine may comprise displacer and working pistons which may be mechanically coupled as shown the displacer 104 and power output members 98 are of diaphragm type the displacer diaphragm 104 being controlled by the electronic device 112 the working fluid may be water or a mixture of water and ammonia or water and trichloro-ethanol.
