1361140 Digital wattmeter LANDIS & GYR AG 30 Oct 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 49967/72 Heading G4H A digital wattmeter comprises two modulators 1, 2 receiving a signal indicative of voltage and current being consumed respectively, and each adapted to produce a pulse train, the pulse duration from modulator 1 being # 1 = T 1 /2 + K 1 U where T 1 is a fixed cycle duration, and that from modulator 2 being # 2 = T 2 /2 + K 2 i, where T 2 is a fixed cycle duration, K 1 , K 2 being constants and U and i being input voltage and current values, the outputs from these devices being taken to an AND gate 5 where pulses having a duration of the overlaps of the two pulse trains emerge at 6 and are applied to a second AND gate 8 together with clock pulses from a generator 10, the frequency of output pulses emerging at 11 being shown to be proportional to U x i + “ (clock pulse frequency) and which pulses are applied to a count-up input of a counter 13 together with the clock pulses frequency reduced by a factor of 4 in a divider 15 at a count down input. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the AND gate 5 is replaced by an equivalence circuit and the divider 15 by a 2 : 1 divider.
