Abstract
1361228 Protective arrangements GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 6 July 1971 [3 Aug 1970] 31537/71 Heading H2K [Also in Division H1] A circuit-breaker arrangement (see Division H1), comprises a rectangular insulating casing, a circuit interrupter in the casing, an electrically operable device 55 for causing the opening of the interrupter and means, preferably an electronic switch, for energizing the device 55 in response to an unbalance signal from a differential transformer 60. The arrangement is formed by an assembly of a plug-in circuit breaker unit having a casing 37, contacts 52A, 52B and a thermal and magnetic overcurrent responsive means 53, a unit having a casing 38 containing the device 55, a test switch 57 and a resistor 58, and a unit having an L-shaped casing containing the electronic switch and the transformer 60. The three casings are riveted together to form the rectangular casing which when mounted in a panel board occupies the spaces provided for three circuit-breaker units. A further circuit-breaker unit may be added to form a double-pole arrangement which may be used to control the supply to a plurality of circuit-breakers, Fig. 6 (not shown). The electronic switch may be that on pages 166-167 of the Silicon Controlled Rectifier Manual, 4th edition, General Electric Company 1967, and comprise a silicon controlled rectifier with a unijunction transistor trigger circuit.
