Abstract
1361445 Acid stripping solutions IMASA SA 2 Sept 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 41040/71 Heading C7E [Also in Division B6] An acidic solution for use in the selective stripping of tin and/or lead from a copper substrate comprises (a) a nitro-substituted aromatic compound having at least one – NO 2 group attached to an aromatic nucleus and a watersolubilizing substituent also attached to the aromatic nucleus (b) an inorganic acid capable of reacting with tin and lead to form watersoluble salts and incapable of forming a waterinsoluble film thereon, and (c) a thiourea. Compound (a) may be (o-, m-, or p-) nitrobenzene sulphonic acid, nitrobenzoic acid, nitrochlorobenzene, nitroamiline, nitrophenol, or mixtures thereof, 0À1 to 180 g/l, (b) may be HBF 4 , H 2 SiF 6 , or NH 2 SO 3 H, 3-500 g/l and (c), thiourea, a G-C 4 alkyl thiourea, or an aryl thiourea, 0À1-220 g/l. The bath preferably contains an accelerator R. COOH where R is lower alkyl, aryl, or H, e.g. formic, acetic, propionic, 1-120 g/l, and where (b) is HBF 4 , the bath preferably contains 1-120 g/l of boric acid. A wetting agent may be present, e.g. nonyl phenoxy polyoxyethylene ethanol, tertiary octyl phenoxy polyethoxy ethanol, or quaternary ammonium imidazolinium/polyalkylene glycol; contact with the Cu is by immersion or spraying; solder may be selectively removed from printed circuits with the aid of masking tape.
