Abstract
1365569 Securing railway rails to sleepers ELASTIC RAIL SPIKE CO Ltd 24 Nov 1972 54531/72 Heading E1G [Also in Division F2] A rail fastening clip which can be driven directly into a hole 10 in a wooden sleeper 9 comprises a spring steel bar which is (a) bent back on itself at 4a to provide a composite shank 3a-3b, (b) has one end bent back again on itself at 4b to provide a hammer head and (c) has its other end curved to engage a rail foot 8. The curved end 1-2 is twisted away from the shank, Fig. 1a (not shown) so as to overlie the rail foot. The other end is tapered at 6 for driving into the sleeper if necessary. As shown the hole 10 is cylindrical and the composite shank 3a-3b is square. The clip may also be used for concrete sleepers or slabs having wooden inserts.
