Abstract
1365866 Vibratory finishing CARL KURT WALTHER 24 July 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 35298/73 Heading B3D Apparatus for the surface treatment of workpieces comprises a resiliently supported vibrational scouring tank 7 in which workpieces are agitated with a grinding agent with the addition of liquid, and a flocculation tank 12 connected downstream of a liquid discharge 13 of the scouring tank, the flocculation tank being attached to the scouring tank to oscillate therewith and having a seeding inlet 18 for the addition of a flocculation seeding substance. The scouring tank may be annular, channelshaped, or, as described, spirally ascending and is mounted on a base plate 6 supported by springs 8 from a frame 2. A bearing 5 is mounted on plate 6 and rotatably supports a shaft 4 carrying eccentric weights 3 for vibrating the tank so that its contents move in a helical path from the bottom A to the top B of the tank. Liquid is uniformly supplied to the tank from an annular nozzle 10 connected to a hose 9. A liquid outlet spigot 11 at the bottom A of the scouring tank is connected to a spigot 13 of the flocculation tank 12, the spigot 13 communicating with an inlet pipe 17 which extends towards the bottom of the tank and has an outlet adjacent an inlet 18 for a scaling substance. A discharge pipe 16 is connected to the top of the flocculation tank in siphon relationship to the inlet pipe 17 and can be closed by a tap 19 when the flocculation operation is completed, the flocculated liquid discharged from the flocculation tank passes to a filter for cleaning. The flocculation tank may be in the form of an ascending coil and the liquid, after passing through a filter may be returned to the scouring tank.
