Abstract
1367935 Capacitive transducer CAPE ENG CO Ltd 25 April 1972 [26 May 1971] 17207/71 Heading G1N A capacitive transducer includes a cylinder divided into two substantially equal volumes V 1 , V 2 by a flexible diaphragm 10 of a synthetic plastics material coated on each side with an electrically conducting metal film e.g. aluminium; two opposed walls 11, 12 of the cylinder formed, at least on their inner surfaces, of electrically conducting material whereby a first capacitance is defined between one of the walls and the diaphragm and a second capacitance is defined between the other of the walls and the diaphragm, the first and second capacitances being variable in inverse relation to one another as the diaphragm is displaced from an undistorted rest position and the range of diaphragm displacement being arranged so that the difference between the first and second capacitances is directly proportional to the displacement of the diaphragm. In an alternative embodiment the diaphragm is a sheet of steel. The transducer is applied to the measurement of pressure wherein one of the volumes is maintained at one pressure communicated through a pipe 18 and the other volume at another pressure communicated through a pipe 19. The difference in capacitances may be measured by a circuit as disclosed in Specification 1234467 (see Division G1).
