Abstract
1371222 Measuring force or pressure electrically H LIST 18 Nov 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 53582/71 Heading G1N A force or pressure transducer including extensible strain gauges is cooled to enable operation at high temperatures. The force or pressure to be measured acts against a diaphragm 2 closing housing 1 and which is connected via a pressure foot 3 to an extensible thin walled cylindrical sleeve member 7 on which is mounted extensible strain gauges 8. The opposite end of sleeve member 7 is welded at 11 to a further annular sleeve 4 the arrangement being such that coolant fluid passes from inlet 17 through annular chamber 6, grooves 16 into chamber 15, chamber 6 and out through outlet 18 thereby cooling the elements 8. To prevent short-circuiting of the coolant, chamber’6 is divided into two halves, Fig. 2 (not shown) and the foot 3 extends across the sleeve 7, the coolant passing through channels 19. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the sleeve 7 is oval cross section and the strain gauges flat and the foot 3 is circular in crosssection.
